I have started to cook, mostly instant stuff like lipton rice and noodles. Cooking isn't that much fun though. I'd rather make frozen dinners in the microwave. Do you guys cook? Do you have fun with it?

I love cooking. I'm no chef or anything, butdo enjoy it yeah. Love doing stuff like curries, stir fries, and things like that. Baking chicken with spices and herbs can be fun also.

like grilling better really. Its interseting it its somewhat easier than cooking. baking gets fun at times as well.

It seems to be more fun if you're doing it with another person. love baking cookies.

LOL, I don't generally love cooking, but if I'm making Italian I do. I love Italian food, and I love making it. We do evrything but our noodles from scratch. I also love coming up with novel ideas and trying them out. I'm an inventive cook whose ideas don't always work, but they don't always fail either. *grin* Oh, and I don't like making the instant stuff; it's the real (um not sure how else to word it) cooking that I love...Making spaghetti sauce from scratch, etc...

No, I don't like cooking. When it's just me, I avoid it whenever possible, and make convenience food. LOL. however, it's not quite so bad if I'm cooking for someone else. I still don't like the cooking process itself, but there's a reward to it at the end when I se people enjoying the food. All I have to say is, thank God for my George Foreman grill!

We love those grills too. *smile* My husband is the one in this family who truely loves cooking; no matter what it is. LOL.

I've loved cooking ever since I was ten years old and started making up my own recipes. I could remember following Mom around in the kitchen and wanting to taste everything, offering suggestings of what seasoning she should use and telling her when or if the food was ready. Now that I'm 24, I still do the same, and I still adore it, even more so now that I've started to get into the Greek scene and have my trusty list of recipes online. I don't believe in mixes, boxes or other shortcuts when I really cook. A tv dinner is one thing, but when I'm in the kitchen, it's all from scratch. It's gotten to the point where my mother just hands me the cutting board and chef's knife and leaves me alone. lol I drive her crazy with my chopping and no one will eat her chicken salad anymore because they all want mine. they bought me professional cookie sheets cause they're addicted to my korambiedhes (Greek butter cookies) though I still don't think I've perfected them yet. Mom's fine with it cause although she was in catering, she htes cooking just as much as I love it. I have so many kitchen gadgits that it's ridiculous and I'm always buying more. One of my dreams is to go to culinary school, and as soon as I get enough money, I'm going to apply to one. It's specifically for the blind, and consists of six months training and three months of an internship. I think it'll help me because there's probably a million things that I don't know and I want to learn them all. As for grills, I like the regular ones but am a bit nervous when it comes to using the indoor grills for myself because I hear they remove the fat. I'm not into dieting either. Ok, I'll get off my soap box now. *smile* Btw, if you want any tips or tricks to making things easier as a blind person, I'll offer them if I know them and either look them up or shut up if I don't. The best advice I can give to any newby is to learn to trust your instincts and to not be afraid of the stove. Reember, you're in control. It's not gonna blow up or jump out at you or start shooting flames at you. Just treat it with care and respect and it won't cause you any worries.

I hate tV dinners. absolutely disgusting.

Post 10 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Tuesday, 05-Feb-2008 9:34:08

I hate TV dinners, but kind of hate cooking as well, so my poor mum has to scrub up and get tea for the pair of us when she gets in from work, though I don't mind stepping in occasionally to help out with vegetable pealing and chopping, browning the chicken for our curry we had last night, fair blew my head off lmfao, baking fruit cakes, scones, biscuits and various other confections as you always enjoy the end results with those, but I guess actually making a shepherd's pie, roast chicken/turkey/beef/pork dinner from scratch, anything like that would really pis me off, I'd get so, so bor'r'r'red, standing over pots of boiling veg for hours on end every night just so the family gets a healthy meal. Just so much easier to shove a pack of sausages in the George Foreman, prepare 5 bowls of breakfast cereals or shove pies, pizzas and chips in the oven. (Poor mum's forever reasoning with me, telling me I couldn't live like that every day.)

Jen.

Well, what you could do is take one day to cook. Make everything for the week and then freeze it. That way, you don't have to cook every night. Another cool trick is to get a vacuum bag sealer. Basically, they give you certain bags and a machine. When you seal the bag it's air-tight as it would be if it were premade. also, lol, you don't have to cook full banquets, especially if you're cooking for yourself. I never pay attention to the food pyramid. I eat what tastes good and what fills me up. sometimes, I make side dishes and sometimes, I don't.

Same here. Just depends on what we're in the mood for, and I don't get super worried if we're simply not in the mood for vegies...However, we do try to eat semi healthy as I'm prediebetic and need to at least be careful. Plus when we have children what we eat is going to be more important...Also, to post 8...Indoor grills (the good ones anyways) remove the extra grease. I personally think food taists better without all the extra grease. I'm not into dieting either, but eating smart is still a good idea; IMO.

Post 13 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Tuesday, 05-Feb-2008 13:24:28

So some don't remove it? Personally, I like the taste of grease if it's a food that's supposed to be made that way. It's all about good taste with me.

Post 14 by cattleya (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Tuesday, 05-Feb-2008 17:40:25

LOL, up to you of course...Just stating the truth about indoor grills. Although to some grease is fat; all they're truly designed to do is remove the grease (or some of it).

I get buy with my george grill, a microwave and an oven. those are a good ccombo as instead of boiling you can use microwave to do pasta etc. I cook to eat, not for enjoyment mainly but theres nothing like a fresh hot baken sandwitch straight off the grill!

convenience and boxed foods are extremely unhealthy.

I love cooking! Do it all the time. I try to cook healthy meals as often as I can. I enjoy the bad stuff thoo. but microwave dinners don't real impress me. I hardly ever use my microwave.

Post 19 by DevilishAnthony (Just go on and agree with me. You know you want to.) on Sunday, 13-Jul-2008 10:52:26

I do love to cook. I really love baking the most. Brownies, cakes and cookies are among my favorits, followed very closely by pies. As far as cooking goes, I tend to cook a big lot of stuff at once, then freeze it. One of my absolute favorite things to cook, as well as to eat, is swiss steak. I buy about 5 pounds of cube steak, batter it, then fry it on the stove. After it's done, I put it in the pressure cooker, pour two 15 ounce cans of tomato sauce in, and 2 cans of watter, then pressure it on high pressure for about 25 to 30 minutes. It's really tender, and all that steak and tomato gravy is absolutely heavenly. If you don't like tomato, you can always substitute soup instead. cream of mushroom will work quite well, though more water is needede. Cream of celery is good as well. The pressure cooker I use comes from qVC and is an 8 quart pressure cooker that is totally independant of the stove. It's electric, and very safe. Gone are the days of being so scared that the cooker will explode if the pressure gets too great.
